So surely, by now, you’ve seen people who have issue with Tech N9ne on rock festivals. He’ll be at Rocklahoma this year, and the message boards are FULL of people talking S**t about a rapper performing at an event called “ROCK”lahoma.
Well, I got news for you haters, Tech N9ne LOVES him some metal, and references The other “9” in his new song “Like I Ain’t” which you can hear below.
“Like I’m tryna be the best up in this hip-hop (Cheah)
And do a track with the king of Atlanta, T.I.P.-top
Then turn around and switch it up, do big rock
Tryna ride all the way up to my homie in Slipknot (Maggot)”
Tech’s history with metal goes pretty deep actually. He even did an entire album with Ross Robinson. And it’s possible you don’t know who that is, but I guarantee you know some of the albums he’s produced! (Korn: “Korn” “Life is Peachy”; Limp Bizkit: “Three Dollar Bill Y’all”; Slipknot: “Slipknot” “Iowa”; Fear Factory: “Concrete”; The Cure: “The Cure”) Robinson’s also worked with the bands Red Fang, At the Drive-In, Glassjaw, Norma Jean, and a TON of other metal acts.
But it’s that relationship with Slipknot that ties all this together.
Tech N9ne asked Robinson to produce an EP with him, “Therapy: Sessions with Ross Robinson” in 2013, that featured a sound HEAVILY influenced by hard rock and metal. (I highly encourage you to check that out in the link.) Robinson already had ties to Slipknot at that time, and two years later, Corey Taylor was featured on a track called “Withered” (Listen below) on Tech’s “Special Effects” album, which is the track he references in his new song.
So to everyone saying Tech N9ne won’t fit in at Rocklahoma…. you couldn’t be more wrong my friends, and he’s one of the artists I’m MOST excited to see on Memorial Day Weekend this year!
