The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim in an unsolved homicide case from 1994.

On October 29th, 1994, the body of a man was found in a shallow grave in a field in the 5800 block of West 47th Street South.  The Sheriff’s Office has now identified the man as 21-year-old Harold “James” Crawford of Wichita.    For almost 30 years, he had only been identified as a “John Doe.”   DNA was used to make the identification by Othram Labs in Texas.

The Sheriff’s Office said Crawford lived in an apartment complex in east Wichita, and his death was determined to be a homicide.

Anyone with information on Crawford and his last known activity is urged to contact the Sheriff’s Office.  You can call the Cold Case Hotline at (316)660-3799, Crime Stoppers at (316)267-2111 or Email coldcase@sedgwick.gov
