A Hutchinson woman has been sentenced to almost 18 years in prison for a fatal hit-and-run crash that happened in west Wichita over a year ago.
A sentence of 213 months was given to 37-year-old Ashley Corley, who pleaded guilty in September to charges of involuntary manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident, and theft.
Police said Corley was in a stolen vehicle when she struck and killed a man on October 14th, 2022 in the 3000 block of West 9th Street. 41-year-old Rigoberto Rivas of California died later at a hospital. Police said Rivas and Corley were running toward his car, and she got behind the wheel. He jumped on the hood of the car to try to stop her from leaving, but she drove off at high speed.
