The Kansas Corporation Commission held a hearing Monday on the proposed settlement in the rate increase request by Evergy.

The settlement was negotiated by KCC staff, working with officials from Evergy, the Citizens Utility Ratepayer Board, and a number of other agencies and interested parties.

Evergy had applied for a net revenue increase of $204 million, a 9.77 percent increase for Evergy Kansas Central, which includes Wichita, Hutchinson and Topeka. Under the settlement agreement, Evergy would receive a net revenue increase of $77 million, for an increase of 3.54 percent.

If the settlement is approved, the average monthly impact to residential customers in Evergy Kansas Central would be $4.64 a month. Customers in the Evergy Kansas Metro area, which is the Kansas City area, would see a decrease of $6.07 a month on average. The agreement calls for a net revenue decrease of $32.9 million for Evergy Kansas Metro.

Attorney Glenda Cafer, representing Evergy, presented the details of the settlement and told the Commission that it is “a reasonable resolution of the many issues and varied positions that were represented in this docket.  It’s a fair outcome that results in reliable service for customers, and just and reasonable rates.”

A KCC order on the settlement is due by December 21st.
