The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office and first responders will be involved in a joint training exercise this week with the Kansas National Guard.

The exercise will be conducted at the Sedgwick County Zoo and at Hartman Arena, and it involves a hazardous materials response.  The purpose is to establish partnerships between local, state and federal agencies in responding to hazmat incidents that may overwhelm local resources.   The 73rd Civil Support Team of the Kansas National Guard will be taking part in the exercises on Tuesday, July 25th and Thursday, July 27th.

The exercises will be conducted away from heavily populated areas, but some area residents may see activities with vehicle movement and operational response actions.  People are urged to stay away from areas that are marked “TRAINING,” in the interest of safety.
