Most aircraft from McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita have been relocated because of severe weather expected in south central Kansas.

The aircraft from the 22nd Air Refueling Wing were sent to other locations because of a forecast of severe storms that could include damaging winds and large hail.   The aircraft were moved to protect them from damage and to preserve McConnell’s capability to support its Global Mobility mission.

Severe storms developed in western Kansas Thursday afternoon and began moving north-northwest.  Tornado warnings were issued for several counties in northwest Kansas.  The severe weather threat is expected to move east into central and south central Kansas into the evening hours.
