Snow affects schools, activities across Kansas

A number of schools were affected Tuesday by the winter storm that brought blizzard conditions to much of Kansas.

Classes were canceled in Wichita, Derby, Valley Center, Maize, Haysville, Newton, El Dorado and a number of other districts.

Wichita State University went to remote operations.  All critical campus buildings are open, and employees who support these operations are expected to report to campus.  Pre-session classes were moved to remote delivery.

Friends University campus was closed and staff will work remotely.

WSU Tech buildings were closed and classes will be held virtually.

Butler Community College will close all locations Tuesday.

The KU School of Medicine had its Wichita campus open Tuesday, but students and staff are urged to work remotely if possible.

 


OTHER CLOSINGS:

The Sedgwick County Zoo will be closed Tuesday.

Cowtown and Botanica are closed Tuesday.

The Kansas Humane Society is closed Tuesday and plans to reopen at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Starkey main centers and day programs will be closed Tuesday.

Rainbows United is closed.

McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita will have delayed reporting at 4:30 p.m. except for Mission-Essential personnel.  The base will be open on Tuesday but some services may be limited.  The Base Exchange and all mall shops will open at 10 a.m. and the Commissary will open at 11.
