Evergy was dealing with power outages affecting almost 44,000 customers across Kansas.
The utility was reporting over 1,300 outages from the winter storm that brought wind gusts up to 55 miles an hour for much of the state.
In Wichita, Evergy was reporting a number of outages affecting more than 5,000 customers in the Wichita area, and there were outages affecting around 4,200 customers in and around Hutchinson. Other outages were reported across central and northeastern Kansas, into the Kansas City area.
Crews have been working to get power restored to the affected areas. Evergy said all available crews and contractors are in the field working on outage restoration. Poor conditions and low visibility are factors that are slowing down the restoration work, so it’s not known when power will be restored.
