Wichita Police Chief Joe Sullivan said he has issued a 30-day suspension of the entertainment license for a club in the Old Town district where a shooting incident left 11 people injured.

Police said nine people were shot and two were trampled as people ran out of the CityNightz club in the 200 block of North Washington.  The shooting happened just before 1 a.m. Sunday.   A 31-year-old man from Florissant, Missouri was arrested and booked for two counts of aggravated battery, and police are working to find other people who fired shots inside the club.   They have recovered four guns in the investigation.    The people who were injured by gunfire were seven men, ranging in age from 22 to 34, and two women ages 22 and 24.

Chief Sullivan told our news partners at KWCH that the shooting could have been prevented if the club had screened people as they went inside.  He said this should be a wake-up call for clubs around the city.    Police said CityNightz had a dozen previous incidents this year, and three involved gun violence.    The club’s managers told KWCH that they felt police were focusing on their club and not looking at the bigger picture of crime in the city.
