A new police chief has been appointed for the City of Derby.

Brandon Russell has been named as the new chief to take over for Robert Lee, who will retire on July 4th.  The appointment was announced Thursday by Derby City Manager Kiel Magnus.

Russell has been with the Derby Police Department since 1999, and he is currently the Deputy Chief.  He earlier served with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves and the Wichita State University Police Department.   He has a criminal justice degree from Wichita State.

As Police Chief, Russell will lead a 50-officer department with 13 support staff and a budget of $6.2 million.
