A pilot and passenger were uninjured after a crash near Gardner Municipal Airport early Friday afternoon.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a Cessna 182 was flying near Melvern just before 12 p.m. when the engine stopped operating properly.
The pilot turned the plane around to return to the New Century airport when the plane went into complete engine failure.
The pilot performed an emergency descent and forced a landing in a field just south of Gardner Municipal Airport. The plane then struck a culvert, overturned and came to a stop upside-down.
No one was injured.
