A former Sedgwick County Sheriff’s deputy who fled the U.S. after being investigated for child sex crimes will now serve almost 30 years in prison.
32-year-old Derick Chandler, of Wellington, was sentenced in Sumner County District Court last week after pleading guilty to two felony counts of electronic solicitation of a child. Chandler received two consecutive 165-month terms, or 27 & 1/2 years.
Wellington Police began investigating Chandler in August of 2018. Chandler then fled to Istanbul, Turkey. After being on the run for 2 years, he was extradited to the U.S. in March, 2021 after being detained in Budapest, Hungary.
