Kansas corrections officials said an inmate at the Hutchinson Correctional Facility died after testing positive for COVID-19.
The inmate was a 50-year-old man who was serving a 195-month-sentence for a sex crime, and he had been in the corrections system since September of 2015. Corrrections officials said he tested positive for the virus on October 16th and was transferred to the hospital three days later. He had underlying medical issues that contributed to his condition.
This is the second COVID-19 related death at the Hutchinson facility and the eighth resident death in the Kansas correctional system.
