Washburn University in Topeka plans to return to somewhat normal operations for the fall semester.

“As conditions continue to stabilize in Kansas, the Shawnee County COVID-19 Response Team has released a road map to begin to lift restrictions. With that timeline, we are optimistic we will be able to start the fall semester with conventional classes,” said Dr. Jerry Farley, president of Washburn University. “We will continue to watch the situation with the pandemic carefully, but our plans are to return to teaching in the classrooms this fall.”

Barring any unforeseen changes, they university will return to in-person face-to-face classes.  However, there will be some changes in operations.

The university plans to take extra steps to respond with appropriate social distancing and will be providing more frequent and thorough cleaning and disinfection of classrooms.  Residence halls will reopen, but they will be less dense with fewer students in each apartment or suite on campus.

School officials believe that more students who had planned to go to college out of state will instead choose to attend a school in their home town due to the ongoing pandemic.  They expect to see more students in Topeka to pick Washburn University as their school rather than traveling outside of their community.
