The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about another telephone scam involving someone posing as a sheriff’s employee and demanding payment of a fine.
The caller tells the victims that they violated the Offender Registration Act by not having their DNA collected, and the victims are told they can pay fines to avoid being arrested.
The Sheriff’s Office said it does not collect fines by phone, and residents are urged to avoid giving personal information to anyone who makes a call like this. Victims of the scam should contact their local law enforcement agency.
